Roster of Company G, November 20, 1863

This mid-war roster of Company G was current as of November 1863 and was printed by M. E. Cole & Co. of Cincinnati. At bottom center it reads, "Agents wanted in every company. Send for circular." We don't know who the agent for Company G of the Fifty-First was, but this print is from the George Younker Papers at the Western Historical Manuscript Collection-Columbia, Missouri (full citation below). There are numerous misspellings among the numerous fact: the resignation of Wentz, the first captain of the company; the resignation of Merrick, the second captain of the company; the names of the two musicians Shirts and Tower, taken captive at Chickamauga (Tower to die at age 14 at Andersonville); Farrier, Wilson, Wentz, Lensburgh, deserted; William Payne, long since dead during the first months at Camp Douglas; Allen and Dusenberg, transferred to the cavalry; Brown, Brown, Eastman, Cushman, Hoffman, Heldriggle, Keelar, discharged for disability; Chambers, Simons, Ames, Dupuy, Leutoff, killed at Chickamauga; Murphy and Tweed, dead of wounds received at Nashville.
