West Viniard Field - The Approach, 4:30 P.M. September 19, 1863
This picture is taken from the western boundary of the west Viniard field. From here, one looks across the shallow valley of the ditch to the crest of the rise in the east Viniard field, 375 - 400 yards away. (The row of monuments in the center sit, approximately, on the crest.) The two-regiment brigade front extended 175 - 200 yards as the brigade crossed the field. At double-quick time, it would have taken the brigade two minutes to reach the road.
